Louisiana WaspWatcher Program
Bio-surveillance for invasive beetles using native wasps
Cerceris fumipennis is a native wasp that collects metallic wood-boring beetles (family Buprestidae) to feed to its offspring.
Cerceris (pronounced sir-sir-us) is the best tool we have to monitor for the invasive Emerald Ash Borer. Additionally, monitoring Cerceris catches can act as an early warning system for new invasive buprestids in our area.
The Louisiana WaspWatcher Program lets young researchers contribute through discovery of Cerceris colonies and beetle collection.
